Job Summary:

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accountant II plays a key role in ensuring the accurate financial presentation of Regis University’s operational results. This position exercises sound judgment in applying accounting standards and is responsible for monitoring compliance with University policies and maintaining effective internal controls.

In support of the University’s mission, the Accountant II contributes to the responsible stewardship of institutional resources and promotes a culture of operational excellence.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in accounting principles, exceptional attention to detail, and the analytical ability to problem-solve through complex reconciliations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

General accounting functions

• Maintain a chart of accounts and perform monthly reconciliations for all assigned statements of Financial Position accounts

• Assist staff members within Financial Affairs with technical accounting or other related topics and perform the initial review of staff journal entries and reconciliations

Contribution-related accounting

• Work with the Advancement department to set up new accounts and deposit funding received from donors

• Records incoming gifts into restricted and designated accounts

• Performs monthly reconciliations of pledge receivables and contribution revenue

• Establishes and maintains endowed scholarships

• Reconciles the annuity pool regularly

Grant-related accounting

• Work with the Center for Scholarship and Research Engagement (CSRE) department to set up new accounts and deposit funding received from granting sources

• Assist with indirect cost allocations, and process and submit required quarterly annual financial reporting to external granting agencies.

• Prepare backup documentation for and manage the University’s Single Audit and Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards. 

• Work with Financial Aid regarding government funding and complete drawdown with G6.

Restricted & designated accounting

• Responsible for coordinating and managing certain restricted and designated accounts

• Make annual distributions to external and internal recipients

• Prepare year-end reports that the President shares with donors

• Make recommendations for coordinating fundraising events

• Be the primary contact for this area within the Office of Financial Affairs

Payroll accounting

• Prepare payroll journal entries for faculty, staff, student and affiliate faculty

• Work with budget managers, departments, and payroll to determine and correct account discrepancies

• Notify and assist payroll with benefit reconciliations

Tax accounting

• Assist with various tax filing needs, e.g., Sales/use tax, business property tax return, city tax

• Act as a resource to staff and faculty as questions arise concerning the taxability of resale items and events

Ad hoc accounting assignments

• Assist the Accounting Manager and Controller with various projects assigned, including preparing multiple schedules and footnotes for the annual financial statement audit.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

  • 4+ years of industry experience or a combination of public and industry experience. Non-profit accounting or grant accounting experience preferred.

  • Experience with the preparation of spreadsheets and interpretation of spreadsheet information

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. this role requires a significant on-campus presence.

Pay Rate:

$65,000 - $70,000/annually commensurate with qualifications
