Are you a skilled musician and passionate educator looking to inspire young instrumentalists? We are seeking a dedicated Band Teacher to lead K-12 band instruction in New York City. In this role, you will guide students in developing technical skills, ensemble performance abilities, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Role Overview

As a Band Instructor, you will create an engaging classroom environment where students explore instrumental music, learn proper technique, and perform in ensembles. You will design and implement lessons, rehearsals, and performances that inspire creativity, discipline, and teamwork.


Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum Development

  • Teach a structured band curriculum that covers instrumental technique, music theory, and ensemble performance.
  • Introduce students to a variety of musical styles, historical contexts, and cultural influences.
  • Encourage students to engage in creative expression through composing, improvisation, and performance.

Performance & Concert Production

  • Plan, rehearse, and produce high-quality band performances, concerts, and showcases.
  • Prepare students for school, community, and competitive performances.
  • Collaborate with fellow music teachers to build a cohesive, network-wide band program.

Student Engagement & Classroom Culture

  • Foster a supportive, motivating, and inspiring learning environment.
  • Provide individualized feedback to enhance students’ technical proficiency and musicality.
  • Promote teamwork, leadership, and confidence within ensembles.

Professional Development & Collaboration

  • Participate in coaching, professional development, and feedback sessions to refine instructional practices.
  • Work closely with other band teachers and school leadership to strengthen curriculum and instructional strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree completed prior to start date (Music, Instrumental Performance, Music Education, or related field).
  • Proven experience teaching or coaching band or instrumental music.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory, ensemble direction, and instrument techniques.
  • Experience working with children in educational or extracurricular settings.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Passion for music education and inspiring students’ growth and creativity.

Compensation

Salary Range: $65,000 USD (may vary based on experience and qualifications)
