Scope of the Role
Under moderate supervision, this role contributes to an organization independently to help support its goals and mission. The General Ledger Accountant I will occasionally also focus on special projects as assigned by their direct leader. The General Ledger Accountant I is responsible for completing tactile tasks and completing assigned work duties that help drive the success of the organization.
The General Ledger Accountant I will have a general understanding of accounting principles, standards, and regulations, and is proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel. This position must have the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with internal contacts, meet deadlines, display organization and time management, and have the ability to maintain autonomy while working on projects and duties.
Performance Outcomes
Enters financial data and transactions into the general ledger for parent company and subsidiaries
Logs into various sites and resources to obtain documentation
Matches and attaches supporting documentation for each entry
Approve financial transactions for assigned cost center as the Cost Center Financial Analysis
Review credit card and invoice receipt coding for accuracy
Lead monthly meetings with cost center leader to review actual vs budget
Track and Record Postage Balance to the General Ledger
Track daily postage transactions
Post monthly usage allocations to general ledger
Responsible for reconciliation of specified ledger accounts
Analyze assigned accounts and submit account certifications
Education, Knowledge, and Experience
Knowledge of US GAAP accounting practices and principles
Excellent organization skills and the ability to prioritize is necessary
Ability to sort, check, count and verify numbers
Ability to analyze and recognize trends
Ability to work well with others in a team environment
Desire to learn new software applications and improve processes
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting/finance is desired
Two years accounting experience
Knowledge of computer applications related to work

While performing the duties of the job, this position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to manage, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, and hear. Minimal travel is for this position.
