This is a confidential search for a mission-driven non-profit organization in Fort Bend County, TX. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various accounting principles and practices, including corporate accounting, non-profit accounting, and governmental accounting. This role requires proficiency in financial software and a solid understanding of GAAP standards. The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 2 years nonprofit experience (with government funding)
  • SEFA reporting experience

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile the corporate credit card monthly to ensure it balances to the statement and record the auto payment.
  • Responsible for the financial reporting and management of government grants.
  • Record financial transactions, ensure accuracy in ledgers, and maintain financial records.
  • Assist CFO with annual audits and budget.
  • Obtain W-9 forms and perform SAM verifications for all new vendors prior to paying them
  • ACH funds to vendors as needed in a timely manner with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Upload Positive Pay report after each check run to the bank’s cash management system.
  • Review outstanding checks monthly and ensure all are either cleared, reissued (if lost), or voided within 60 days, and void checks as needed in QB and Positive Pay.
  • Collaborate with other departments, stakeholders, or external parties to convey financial information or resolve issues.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting principles, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Manage and track grant budgets, expenditures, and reporting to ensure compliance with funding requirements and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Prepare and maintain the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) in accordance with Uniform Guidance for annual audit readiness.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Proven experience in public accounting or corporate finance is preferred
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance, securities law, and tax experience is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of financial concepts including accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, and financial analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes
  • Experience with financial services related to private equity or technical accounting is advantageous
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and provide insights for decision-making
