Job Overview
The Operations manager is a key leadership position responsible for managing and optimizing all aspects of third-party logistics operations as well as all internal partners. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and operational expertise to ensure the efficient and effective movement of goods throughout the supply chain.
What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for operations aligned with the overall supply chain objectives.
- Identify opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and service improvement within all networks.
Vendor Management:
- Select, onboard, and manage relationships with third-party logistics providers.
- Negotiate contracts, service level agreements (SLAs), and pricing terms to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Operational Oversight:
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements and service level commitments.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, and order fulfillment rates.
- Implement processes and procedures to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
Inventory Management:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize inventory levels and minimize carrying costs.
- Ensure accurate inventory tracking and reporting across all networks.
- Implement best practices for inventory control, cycle counting, and stock rotation.
Transportation Management:
- Coordinate inbound and outbound transportation activities to meet customer requirements and minimize freight costs.
- Optimize transportation routes and modes based on service levels, transit times, and cost considerations.
- Monitor carrier performance and address any issues or discrepancies.
Technology Integration:
- Evaluate and implement logistics technology solutions to improve visibility, tracking, and reporting capabilities.
- Integrate systems and platforms to facilitate seamless data exchange between internal systems and all partners.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to logistics operations, including supply chain disruptions, security threats, and compliance issues.
What You Should Have
Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in warehouse management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role as a manager or above.
- Proven leadership capabilities, including team management, coaching, performance management, and change leadership.
- Proven experience in logistics and supply chain management, with a focus on third-party logistics operations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage teams and drive performance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in logistics software and technology platforms.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and best practices.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
- Passion and drive to excel in supply chain leadership.
Additional Preferred Skills:
Certification and ability to operate multiple types of equipment (sit down, stand up, clamp, slip sheet and more lifts.
Experience with barcode scanning systems.
Basic knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in a warehouse environment.
What You Can Expect
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fast-paced warehouse environment with exposure to heavy machinery, dust, fluctuating temperatures and moderate noise levels
Position involves working around machinery with moving parts
The position may require alternating shifts, depending on volume
Position requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
Position requires movement of items from machinery to other locations
Position requires regular handling of materials, packaging, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending
Frequent sustained walking and /or standing for prolonged periods of time
Work Schedule:
Full-time, typically Monday through Friday, minimum 10 hours a day with some overtime or weekend work as required.
