    Salary Range: $60,000-$72,000/year + Full Benefits Package & PERA Retirement
    Location: District Office Virginia, MN   
    Reports To: Finance Director
     
    Position Details:
    The District Accountant will assist to assure accuracy of all subsidiary accounting functions such as but not limited to Accounts Receivable, Activity Accounts, Food Service, Federal Programs and Non-Public School Aids.
     
    Skills & Abilities:
    • Analyze, prepare, and enter journal entries into District financial accounting software.
    • Account for revenue (state aids, federal aids, etc) received by the District, allocating receipts to the proper funds and revenue accounts.  Follow correct revenue recognition principles to properly recognize or defer revenue.  Prepare monthly donation summary for School Board approval.
    • Account annually for the District’s fixed assets.
    • Monitor student activity accounts for compliance with state regulations and GASB 84
    • Assist in the development of the district-wide budget and loading the budget into the financial software. Provide monitoring of the budget throughout the fiscal year.
    • Assist in the preparation of year-end audit worksheets, and adjusting/closing entries.
    • Provide adequate audit trails to ensure ease in completing annual audit.  Participate in the preparation of all records, accounts, and accrual entries for the annual audit.
    • Perform internal audits as directed by the Finance Director.  Assist in reconciling  programs revenue and costs such as Carl Perkins, and other program audits as required by outside agencies.
    • Assist the Finance Director to ensure procedural changes recommended by auditors are completed.
    • Prepare quarterly Collaborative reporting to St. Louis County.
    • Monitor school petty cash funds and allocate student fees paid online to the appropriate accounts.
    • Assess internal controls and recommend corrective action to improve the system of control.
    • Maintain and account for the district’s field trip application system, and ensure internal controls are established.
    • Monitor, allocate, and record costs associated with the District’s substitute management firm.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.
     
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. 
    • 3 or more years of demonstrated knowledge of accounting.
    • Auditing experience is strongly preferred
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in strongly preferred.
