We are seeking a Staff Accountant I to support the Senior Staff Accountant and accounting team with payment processing, reconciliations, and general accounting activities. This role maintains accurate financial records, prepares supporting reports, and assists with month-end and year-end close. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly proficient in Excel, well organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. This individual must be able to manage multiple priorities while demonstrating strong accountability, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
Cash Posting and Accounts Receivable
- Post and apply customer payments received via ACH, credit card, checks, EFT, and lockbox.
- Research unapplied or misapplied payments and process refunds, returned items, and adjustments.
Reconciliations and Reporting
- Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, deposits, and customer accounts.
- Prepare supporting schedules and reports and research variances.
General Accounting Support
- Prepare journal entries and record recurring monthly transactions, including credit cards, leases, accruals, prepaids, and inventory adjustments.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close and maintain organized accounting records.
Process Improvement and Collaboration
- Maintain accounting procedures and process documentation.
- Identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements.
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting and operational issues and ensure assigned tasks are completed through resolution.
- Provide accounting support and prepare reports for other departments as needed.
Training and Certification Requirements:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience.
- Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and reconciliation techniques.
- Experience with accounting software such as Intacct.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- High attention to detail, accountability, and strong follow-through.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks accurately and on time without repeated follow-up.
- Ability to demonstrate ownership from start to finish and proactively resolve discrepancies.
- Ability to communicate issues and status updates in a timely manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies and procedures.
