The General Accountant should exemplify and promote LifeMed Alaska’s standards of safety, culture, and accountability. This role is responsible for a variety of accounting and administrative tasks including, but not limited to, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, analyzing financial data, mail sorting, daily bank deposits, and cash handling. 

This role requires in office presence at Anchorage Headquarters.

JOB DUTIES

1. Ownership of accounts payable including invoice processing and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.

2. Oversee purchase order system and inventory accounts.

3. Accounts payable, credit card, and inventory reconciliation.

4. Responsible for cash and check deposits.

5. Analyze financial data and trends to identify variances, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.

6. Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.

7. Support external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and assistance as needed.

8. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency and accuracy.

9. Function as point of contact for visitors and vendors.

10. Process and route incoming and outgoing mail.

11. Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulations.

12. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

13. Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA preferred.


Experience: 3 years in accounting role.


Skills and Qualifications: Microsoft 365 with emphasis on Microsoft excel including building formulas, workbooks, pivot table functions. Experience in accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R) duties with data input. Experience of working directly in an accounting role with responsibility for keeping and maintaining records, entering journal entries, and reporting.


Other Qualifications: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy and procedure manuals, and technical procedures. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and other employees. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and apply them to the situation.
