$48,000 - $55,000 annually                         Eligible for benefits 1st day of the month following 30 days of employment


Essential Duties:

The Junior Accountant supports month-end close and general ledger activities for a nonprofit organization, with a focus on journal entries, reconciliations, grant and restricted fund tracking, audit schedule preparation, and internal reporting. This role ensures accurate, timely financial information, strong internal controls, and compliance with nonprofit requirements.

 

General Accounting: 

  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for bank and balance sheet accounts
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close tasks

Grant, Fund & Compliance Support:

  • Track grants and restricted funds, ensuring proper coding and documentation.
  • Prepare grant expenditure reports and maintain documentation for funders.
  • Assist with preparation of audit schedules and respond to routine auditor requests.

Financial Reporting & Budget Support

  • Prepare routine internal financial reports for management.
  • Assist with annual budget development and periodic variance analysis.

Internal Controls & Collaboration

  • Follow internal control procedures, including documentation, and approvals
  • Respond to internal inquiries regarding financial transactions

Qualifications

  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ethical judgment and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Education/Years of Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1–2 years of accounting experience (internships accepted).
  • Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting concepts.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, MIP, Blackbaud, Business Central, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills.

 Preferred:

  • Experience in nonprofit accounting and grant tracking.
  • Exposure to audit preparation and PBC schedules.
