Lead Accountant

• Provides professional support to the Finance Director, including research, analysis, and fiscal reporting

• Reports directly to the Finance Officer

• Assists with budget preparation, monitoring, and financial reporting for county operations

• Performs accounting functions such as reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable support, and general ledger maintenance

• Assists with audits, grant reporting, capital project tracking, and financial compliance

• Supports payroll processing and prepares required reports such as W-2s, 1099s, and other financial documentation

• Coordinates financial systems, technology improvements, and departmental reporting tools

• Provides customer service and financial guidance to county departments on budgets, purchasing, and procedures

• Performs additional duties as needed and provides backup support across the finance team

Special Requirements:

• Ability to be bonded in the State of North Carolina.

• Prefer Certified Finance Officer and/or CPA or ability to obtain.

• May require possession of a valid driver’s license.

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a  degree in accounting or business and considerable professional level experience in accounting, preferably in the public sector; or an equivalent combination of education or experience.

Criminal records check, drug screen, and references will be required for the successful candidate.
