We’re looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accountant I to join our Raleigh office-based accounting and finance team. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a project-driven environment and enjoys contributing to the operational success of the business. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
Maintain the general ledger, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Track and maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules, additions, disposals, and roll-forwards.
Support preparation of internal financial reports and variance analyses.
Assist with tax compliance activities including sales tax reporting, property tax filings, and business license renewals in coordination with external advisors.
Prepare audit schedules and support auditor and tax advisor requests during annual audits.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies and procedures.
Assist with tracking and reconciliation of prepaid expenses.
Review contract terms and change orders to ensure proper inclusion in WIP calculations and revenue projections.
Maintain organized financial records and documentation for accounting activities and reporting requirements.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives and assist with documentation of accounting procedures and workflows.
Assist in managing and maintaining accounting‑related workflows within project management software to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.
Collaborate with project teams and other departments to support operational and financial objectives.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Minimum 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial close processes, and fixed asset accounting.
Knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
Strong time management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AIA billing, job cost accounting, and WIP schedules.
Familiarity with multi-entity or multi-project environments common within commercial construction.
Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or CMiC.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Exposure to process improvement initiatives or accounting system implementation projects.
CPA certification or progress toward CPA preferred.
Primarily office-based role within a collaborative accounting and finance department.
Regular interaction with project teams and other operational departments to support company initiatives and project success.
