The Senior Accountant supports the accounting function at JTM Construction and is an integral part of the Core Services team. This position is responsible for overseeing monthly close, accounts payable and receivable, and conducting other ad hoc tasks related to finance. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and be familiar with its unique financial and accounting requirements. The Senior Accountant is excellent at recording data and able to produce clear financial reports. The Senior Accountant works under the direct supervision of the Controller and is a full-time, exempt role located in JTM’s offices in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle. 


The full salary range for this position is $100,000 – $130,000, depending on direct professional experience and qualifications. The bonus target for this role is 3%-10% of annual base earnings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial Record Maintenance: Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries. 
  • Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide regular financial reports (weekly, monthly, and yearly)
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including the preparation and filing of tax returns and other regulatory documents.
  • Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the accounting function.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including project management, procurement, and human resources, to support overall business objectives.
  • Cross train with other accounting team members on all accounting functions

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in Vista accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. 
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Knowledge of construction-specific accounting practices and job costing.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong work ethic and integrity. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
