Position Overview
The Senior Accountant – Shared Services plays a critical role in delivering accurate, timely, and standardized accounting services across a multi‑unit, multi‑entity operating model. This position is responsible for key accounting processes at scale, including period‑end close, reconciliations, and financial control execution across multiple locations, brands, or legal entities.
The role acts as a technical expert, process owner, and service delivery leader, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, consistency in accounting treatment, and fulfillment of defined service‑level expectations. The Senior Accountant also serves as an escalation point and mentor within the shared services organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Multi‑Unit Accounting Operations
Perform and review accounting activities for multiple operating units and legal entities.
Ensure accurate recording of transactions in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
Address complex or non‑routine accounting matters escalated from junior team members.
Support new unit openings, entity transitions, and process migrations into shared services.
2. Period‑End Close & Financial Accuracy
Lead assigned portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for a multi‑unit environment.
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
Ensure balance sheet integrity and timely resolution of reconciling items.
Analyze variances across units and communicate root causes to leadership.
3. Standardization & Process Ownership
Enforce standardized accounting methodologies across all supported units.
Maintain and follow documented procedures, controls, and operating frameworks.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and scalability.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the shared services model.
4. Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit Support
Ensure consistent execution of internal controls across multiple units.
Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audits.
Maintain documentation for accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
Proactively identify control gaps, risks, or compliance concerns and escalate as needed.
5. Systems & Data Integrity
Work within ERP and shared services platforms to ensure accurate data capture.
Support system integrations related to new stores, entities, or process changes.
Maintain master data accuracy (entities, cost centers, locations, accounts).
Assist with ERP and finance system enhancements or upgrades.
6. Stakeholder Service & Collaboration
Serve as a key accounting contact for operations, finance, and business leaders.
Respond to inquiries and service requests within defined service‑level expectations.
Communicate accounting outcomes clearly to non‑accounting stakeholders.
Balance service responsiveness with compliance and control requirements.
7. Leadership & Talent Development
Review work performed by Staff Accountants or Analysts for accuracy and completeness
Provide technical guidance, training, and knowledge transfer
Support onboarding of new team members and transitioned processes
Act as an escalation resource for accounting and service delivery issues
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
Experience supporting multi‑unit, multi‑entity, or shared services environments preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
Experience with ERP systems and shared services workflows
